Dustin Bloom

I've been writing ever since I could create memories. Among early life nostalgia for me was creating a brief scene surrounding two best friends and how they got lost in the Sahara; and my friends and I actually re-enacted this during our elementary school lunches! This was far from my only pre-adulthood writing, but it's the earliest original work I remember, despite its brevity. It's because of this insatiable desire to create that I eventually developed what would later be called The Bloomiverse.

The Bloomiverse is my personal universe, in which I write all my stories. I like to think that, no matter what genre I write in, everything will be in the same universe. Every novel, every short story will add to this ambitious project. Inspired by many forms of media, such as the thriller genre and many, many video games I've played throughout the years. I've always dreamed of the day that I'd create a story with interesting protagonists, a lore-deep world based on allegory, and a story that (hopefully) makes you cry at some point when you read it! Because of my natural ability to balance my creativity with my analytical and structural side, I've been able to use these three in tandem to create my debut novel.

I write in multiple genres because I enjoy them. While I've been writing dark fantasy, hard science fiction, and philosophical fiction for my first novel, I've taken an interest in the post-apocalyptic and western genres; as well as contemporary 2000s slice of life. I focus on writing the story before I think about what genre it is, thus I think that the most important ingredient completes first. Genre can always be determined later, and sometimes, arbitrarily. If I create interesting characters with the ideal story, I consider that an absolute win. My goal as an author is to bring you characters that are compelling in a story you have never seen before. Not only that, but perspective matters!

I was born and raised in the state of Colorado, and because of Colorado's variable geography and climate, it's been easy for me to envision topography, biomes, and even its brief but tumultuous history. I'm knowledgeable in many subjects, from geography and history to astronomy and chemistry, and I try to use what I know to create a world that, while fictional, can feel just as real. Sometimes I'll become inspired by some of my favorite historical events (such as that of the Winter War), or even by heavy metal music. Truly, the possibilities are endless for what can inspire me.
